Gods

Not long after the advent of a sapient race, these ageless, god-type beings began to live alongside mankind as one of its own, using their extraordinary powers to perform “miracles” which saved lives and changed the world for the better. They aided civilization for centuries to come, with additional gods entering into existence only during times of the greatest need.

Appearance

Godtypes appear in every corner of the globe and often carry superficial traits similar to those in their native land. Their most distinguishing physical feature is hair color, which tends toward lighter shades due to a natural lack of melanin in the hair follicles. Fair hair in humans seems to translate into white hair for gods, while brown and black become blond and gray, respectively.

Immortality

The gods’ bodies appear to be anatomically identical to those of the mortals and they even imitate internal functions to some extent, having a beating heart and working digestive system, despite such things being entirely superfluous to their existence. They are functionally immortal and cannot be killed by normal means, even by those of their own kind.

Ordinary means of violence do nothing to wound the gods, and even the most potent modern-day weapons are rendered incapable of so much as piercing their flesh. In the event that a Godtype is faced with complete destruction or an inescapable fate, it is possible for them to recycle their old shell and drop a new body in a location of their choosing.

Because of their endurance wars between humans are sometimes fought by pitting two gods against one another, each allied with a different side of the conflict, and thus preventing loss of human life.

The one way to permanently erase a Godtype from existence is to break them both mentally and emotionally, to the point they wish for death, before dealing a decisive strike into the back and out through the chest with any bladed weapon. Otherwise, a god can continue to exist until they decide their time on Earth is over and no more can be done. The Fall of the Gods, in which Godtypes started to vanish without a trace, established the belief that they had chosen to abandon humanity, as only those closest to humankind remained.

Relationships

From the first breath taken on Earth, Godtypes are instilled with a strong sense of devotion towards all living things, seeking to protect, guide and nurture the planet, as well as everything on it as if it were second nature. This eventually extended into a desire to further human development and allow them to flourish. And while every god inherently understands the sanctity of life, it is only after witnessing and experiencing losses that they come to acknowledge its transience.

Though more uncommon in recent times, Godtypes may form romantic attachments to humans, and if asked, will stay by that one person's side for as long as possible. Although death is unavoidable for the mortal partner, Godtypes are able to adjust their superficial appearance to the various stages of human life, essentially "aging" as a human would.

Armament

In times of dire need the gods may call upon  an “ether weapon”, a physical manifestation of divine providence, which is able to harm the otherwise invincible gods but will pass through humans without leaving even a scratch.
Documented ether weapons: Azoth Sword (Fulcanelli Paramirum), Reaping Hook (Ricia Fraga), Unbreakable Thundering Bow “Gandiva” (Viraj Thakur), King’s Spear “Asphodel” (Hugo Lôi; later Zoe Lôi)
